Updates and stored data

Updates are always prompted

When a new version of MedJot is available, you are asked before it is applied. Nothing updates silently underneath you.

This is deliberate: an update applied mid-report on a clinical tool is an interruption at the worst possible moment. You choose when to take it, and the prompt waits.

Updates are small — the app is a web app, so there is no download to manage, and applying one takes a moment.

info

Occasionally MedJot may apply a waiting update without prompting, when a fix needs to reach everyone at once. Your work is safe when it happens: everything autosaves continuously, and the report is restored after the reload.

Clinical data is in the first two rows only, and neither leaves the device.

What clears clinical data

  • New Report — clears the current report deliberately.
  • Clearing your browser's site data — clears everything on the device, including a report in progress.
  • Signing in as a different user — clears clinical working data, so one clinician's report is never sitting under another's session.
  • Deleting the installed app — removes its storage with it.
warning

A report in progress is not backed up. If you clear site data with an unexported report on the device, it is gone and we cannot retrieve it — we never had it. Export before you clear.

Browsers and policies that clear storage

Some browser settings and some managed-device policies clear website data automatically — on exit, or after a period of inactivity. This will discard an unfinished report.

If you are on a work device and reports disappear between shifts, that is the likely cause, and it is a policy question for your IT department. See Deployment and devices, which covers exactly this and is written for them.

Safari's Intelligent Tracking Prevention can also evict storage from sites left unused for an extended period. Installing MedJot to the home screen substantially reduces this risk, and is one of the better reasons to install it.

Storage size

MedJot's storage footprint is small — text, not images — with the exception of notepad sketches. It is not going to fill a device.
