Installing MedJot
MedJot is a Progressive Web App. It runs in any current browser without installing anything, and it can also be added to a home screen, where it opens full-screen like a native app and works reliably offline.
There is no app store listing, no installer and no MDM app package. If your IT department is expecting to package software, point them at Deployment and devices.
iPhone and iPad (Safari)
- Open medjot.app in Safari. It must be Safari — Chrome and Firefox on iOS cannot install web apps.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add.
Requires iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later for the full installed experience.
Some features behave differently in an installed iOS app than in a Safari tab — notifications for queued AI requests work only when installed, for instance. Installing is the better experience on iOS by some margin.
Android (Chrome)
- Open medjot.app in Chrome.
- Tap the ⋮ menu.
- Tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
Chrome will often prompt you to install without being asked.
Desktop (Chrome, Edge)
Look for the install icon in the address bar, or use the browser menu → Install MedJot. This gives you a windowed app separate from your browser tabs.
The in-app prompt
MedJot also offers installation from within the app itself, in the sidebar, when it detects that the browser supports it and it has not been installed. If you have dismissed it and want it back, it reappears from the sidebar.
After installing
- Your account and data carry over. The installed app is the same app; you stay signed in and any report in progress is still there.
- Updates are prompted, never silent. When a new version is available MedJot asks before applying it, so an update cannot interrupt a report mid-shift. See Updates and stored data.
- It works offline. The interface is cached on the device, so it launches and the whole clinical workflow runs with no signal.
If installing is blocked
On a managed device, installation to the home screen is sometimes restricted by MDM policy. MedJot still works in an ordinary browser tab — you lose full-screen presentation and some notification behaviour, but not the clinical workflow.
If the app itself will not load at all on a work device, that is almost always a network issue rather than an installation one. See Diagnosing a blocked deployment, and in particular TLS inspection, which is the single most common cause.
